Sparkle Launderette – How to Use Our Machines
Our self-service launderette is open every day from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. Staff are on duty between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. to help you if needed. Please follow the instructions below to get the best results and to keep the machines working well for everyone.
Step 1: Sort your washing
Separate light-coloured items from dark ones to avoid colours running. Check pockets and remove any coins, tissues or other objects, as these can damage the machines or your clothes. Very delicate items should not be placed in our machines; a separate hand-washing sink is provided at the rear of the building for these.
Step 2: Load the machine
Do not overfill the drum. As a guide, you should be able to fit your hand comfortably into the top of the loaded drum. Overfilling gives poor results and may cause a breakdown. Close the door firmly until you hear it click.
Step 3: Add detergent and choose a programme
Detergent can be bought from the machine near the entrance if you have not brought your own. Add it to the correct drawer, not directly onto the clothes. Select a programme using the dial: use a warm wash for everyday items and a cold wash for delicate or brightly coloured items. A hot wash is available but is only recommended for heavily soiled items such as bedding.
Step 4: Pay and start
Insert coins into the slot, or use the card reader for contactless payment. The price for each programme is shown on the front of the machine. Once payment is accepted, press the green button to start. A typical wash takes about forty minutes.
Step 5: Drying
Tumble dryers are located along the back wall. Please remove your laundry from the washing machine promptly when it finishes, so that others may use it. Clean the lint filter of the dryer before you use it. If you have any problem, press the call button on the wall or speak to a member of staff during staffed hours.
